Those songs, and Rats, are great. The rest, meh. I know it's cool to be a "true fan" and think that one is great but I'm pretty sure all of the stylistic changes they've made throughout their career have been for the better. :)

See, I think all five albums are what Carcass is supposed to sound like. They were just at different places with each record. Reek is grindcore, Symphonies is death-grind, Necroticism is proto-tech death, Heartwork is melodeath, and Swansong is whatever that is, but each one is undoubtedly Carcass, note-for-note. And that's why they're the greatest death metal band of all time. :horns:

Pretty cool stuff, and it makes me wonder how many 80s bands we just have no fucking idea existed because there was no internet to propagate them and now we have to rely on obscure distro labels to get their shit out to the general public.

* Unless you're Metallica
I didn't necessarily say that (in fact, if you are talking about the present day, I would strongly disagree). Back in the formative days of grindcore, however, music was spread around by making copies of copies of cassette tapes, and oftentimes, if you didn't have a store-bought original then you didn't really know what the original sounded like anyway. High levels of production were rarely discussed back then, and certainly if they were, they weren't used as a yardstick to judge the merit of the music itself the way they are today - that's the point I was making. Nowadays, if Pig Destroyer were to make a muddy-sounding album, they would get blasted for it - but then again, technology is head and shoulders beyond what it was twenty years ago, too. CD's don't wear out like tapes used to, and high-quality digital copies of everything is out there all over the Internet - so people having a more discerning ear for production these days is just a natural progression, and it makes a lot more sense in today's context.

Except for the fact that Napalm Death's Scum was made one year earlier, and sounded a lot less muddier than Reek.

Whoosh? :eyes:
First of all, see my comment above.

Secondly, so you found an older grindcore album that has better production than Reek. So what? Many other cornerstone grindcore albums around that time had shitty production, and that didn't stop them from being monumental examples of the early grindcore sound. Bolt Thrower's first few albums suffered from terrible production. Terrorizer's "World Downfall" wasn't much better. Assuck's albums were like noisy chaos with a distant semblance of music, but IN FUCKING GENERAL, that's what grindcore was.

The "whoosh" sound is the main point of the discussion going right over your head while you argue semantics.

I don't think it's British people in general, I think it's just him. :D

I'm not saying it's necessarily a bad thing, but sometimes it seems like Ravenheart specifically picks out his opinions to be against the status quo.

If i'm not mistaken, he is actually a she. And yes, she likes to antagonize just to be antagonistic. Would be a great quality if she's hot...

Anyone see the new American Pie movie? That British chick in there has the best accent I've ever heard. That movie probably had the best use of "Unrated" material of all time. Highly recommended!

I finally broke down and got the new Kylesa. Thanks Nat for recommending it so highly. I think I like it better than Blue Record actually. More my style

HAHAHA. I must have Ravenheart confused with someone else then. I rememeber someone ripping on Iron Maiden Piece of Mind and I told them they were either 16 or a girl and that person said they were both. hahaha

Maybe I read too much into their response... Or it's the name. :D

I am very much against Status Quo!

Oh right, you said "the"... Not strictly true. I just don't see why I should accept it just because it's popular opinion.

So basically you're anti-thrash then?

Not even close. But I am anti repetitive, derivative music. I love thrash, but I don't need the same song ten times on the same album. Otherwise I'd listen to RHCP and be done with it.

Ironbound isn't a bad album. It's an old thrash band putting new thrash bands to shame by doing what they're trying to do well. But it's one-dimensional and therefore automatically deserves to be nowhere near anyone's top 10 or even 20 list.

This could very easily have been me.

I told them they were either 16 or a girl and that person said they were both. hahaha

This definitely wasn't
